Is your team really performing as One Team?

October 1, 2026

Most teams look aligned until the pressure is on. Discover the six capabilities that separate teams that pull together from teams that pull apart, and find out where yours stands.

Every team believes it is aligned. The plan is agreed, the roles are clear and the meeting ends with nods all round. Then the pressure arrives: a missed deadline, a conflicting priority, a difficult client. That's when you find out how the team really behaves, and whether people pull together or retreat to protect their own patch.

At Transition 15, we call teams that pull together One Team. Being one team isn't a matter of liking each other or having a good away day. It's a set of capabilities that can be understood, measured and developed.

The six capabilities of One Team

1. Shared Purpose
Everyone knows what the team is working towards and why it matters. Without it, people optimise for their own goals, and tricky conversations never feel worth having.

2. Trusted Relationships
People can speak openly without fear of being judged or blamed. Trust is what makes honesty possible, and honesty is what makes good decisions possible.

3. Healthy Challenge
The team disagrees well. Ideas are tested, assumptions are questioned and the best answer wins, not the loudest voice.

4. Collective Accountability
The team owns its outcomes, not just individual tasks. When something slips, the question is "what do we do?" rather than "whose fault is it?"

5. Adaptive Communication
The right information gets to the right people at the right time, especially when things change fast.

6. Learning Agility
The team learns quickly from what works and what doesn't, and adjusts without waiting to be told.

These capabilities depend on each other. A team with strong relationships but little challenge can become comfortable and stall. A team with sharp challenge but low trust can become combative. One Team performance comes from the balance between them.

Find out where your team stands

The One Team Alignment Index is a free diagnostic across all six capabilities. It takes about three minutes and has 13 questions.

Think of one team you lead or belong to, and answer for how it actually behaves under pressure, not how it should. You'll receive customised results straight away, showing your team's strengths and the areas that need attention.

What to do with your results

A score is only useful if it leads to a conversation. Once you have your results:

  • Start with the strengths. Notice what's already working and make sure the team knows it.
  • Choose one gap. Trying to fix everything at once fixes nothing. Pick the capability that would make the biggest difference.
  • Agree one change for the next 30 days. Keep it small and specific enough that you'll notice if it happens.
  • Share it with the team. Ask colleagues to complete the Index too. The differences in how people score the same team are often the most revealing part.
